about

Soul Fruit is based on the duality of reality verses a contrived image that’s been edited and warped to show only what a person wants to portray. It’s about being aware that people can be hiding a lot of things behind perceived achievement, beauty and credibility.

The lyrics are written from the perspective of someone who can easily sift through this facade. There are moments in the lyrical content that lean towards the idea that there are only few people that can tell the difference between this reality and the contrived image presented, which adds a frustrating element to the song that has influenced our musical choices.

For the visuals, we took a lot of inspiration from iridescent colours, plastic-y textures and surreal settings to simulate an image that wasn’t entirely realistic. We then played with this to come up with the different settings of the video, all being very contrived and staged.

Soul Fruit for us is a totally different direction sonically - we experimented a lot with different sounds and textures to create something that sounds quite angular and glassy. Overall the sound leans on synths and the bass/drum groove to set up an electro-soul bed for Kerry’s vocals to sit on top of. We wanted the end to feel more chaotic, like it’s swirling out of control. We’re excited to be showing off a new direction with our music and we look forward to seeing the reactions.
